Understanding Court Locations for Muscogee Creek Nation Cases
My name is Ted Hasse. I’m a Muscogee Creek Nation tribal court attorney practicing in both federal and tribal courts here in Indian Country, Oklahoma.
I spend a lot of time at Muscogee Creek Nation, so this one’s easy: If you’ve just been arrested in Muscogee Nation, how do you know which court you’ll be in?
Current Court System in Muscogee Creek Nation
Right now, there’s only one trial court — the Okmulgee District Court.
That court is located at the Mound Building in the main Muscogee Creek Nation complex. If you’re coming from Tulsa and heading south toward Okmulgee, you’ll see the Muscogee Creek Nation headquarters — that’s where the court is located.
Future Expansion and Court Locations
Now, there are plans for expansion. For years, the Nation has been planning to open additional district courts, including one in Tulsa, and possibly others down the line. But as of 2025, there’s still just one — the Okmulgee District Court.
So if you’ve been arrested or summoned to appear in Muscogee Creek Nation court, that’s where you’ll be going.
How to Identify Your Court Case
When you receive any court paperwork — such as a charging document, summons, or notice to appear — look at the top of the page. It will list which district your case is in. Right now, it will say Okmulgee District. In the future, you might see Tulsa District listed once that court officially opens.
